Phone Taxi
Blergh. Yesterday was a mess of me trying to get through to the National Parks of Canada. They have a reserve line for their parks and then I phone and for 2 hours I couldn't get through. This is a government run fucking thing. Why don't they have a wait time on the phone instead of it going to a busy call sound? Whatever, my pissyness aside, I got through and booked for Jasper.

July 13-27, I'll be there. I'm planning on tackling the small hikes then like Wabasso, Edith Cavell, a few of the lakes and maybe around Beaumont and Old Fort and finish off with the 13k hike in Maligne. The August 10-24, I'll be there again and I'll try and do some of the bigger ones. Go down to the Icefields and do Wilcox pass, hike 24k down some stupid road, maybe do Maligne again, go to Miette and do that brutal 8k slog up a mountain.

Whatever I'm doing, dad's leaving the trailer out there for me so I get to learn how to bloody well survive. I'm already checking on meals and what to make and going to take my bike and try and shed some of my whale fat. Really, though, I'm most excited to just be there since Jasper National Park has been my stomping grounds since I was a child. Now that it's a Dark Sky Preserve, you can go out and see the stars like I haven't seen since I was little and most of the town has hippie food for me to eat.

Ugh. Thinking about it makes me just want spring to come. It snowed here again and it snowed over a foot at our place in the mountains.

Speaking of the weather also makes me sort of... antsy I suppose. I have a small church I got to on Sundays and when spring does come I really, really want to go out to our other house and learn to drive the Side-by-Side and go to these waterfalls and fuck about in the wilderness with the bears but our church really needs support of its members since there's only.. 7 of us. And the town is really hostile (or some claim they just don't know about us). So I'm torn between running out to fresh air, isolation, and bears for staying and building relationships with the little church and supporting it.

Because like, Lord knows how much I sort of hate it here. Like I loathe the prairies. There's too many people around here, it's boring as shit and it's ugly as sin. I am really an isolated person and being around little to no people just relaxes me. I mean, on the downside, there are bears out there and they will kill you. There was a huge boar wandering around near our house last year and I think he's still around his territory but other than the murder machines, it's peaceful.

...And I look outside, there's a little bunny eating out in the yard. His coat is turning brown - just barely - so I hope the snow will end so the poor thing doesn't get seen and eaten by the coyotes.

I should go feed him actually.

Sounds like the government! having never called the national parks I don't know, but I have called CIC plenty of times~!

Jasper is beautiful, though we didn't really get to see it like we should have. We drove through last year at this time in the night, since it was Easter and busy!

You would think with our country's population that there would be better communication... but nope. Well, at least I got through, I suppose. I can take solace in that.

Jasper and Grande Cache are my absolute favourite places to go because they're so beautiful. But I've actually never been there around this time. I can see how it might be busy since the Ski season should be coming to a close *who am I kidding it's never going to stop snowing*
